    Description

Includes a colorful guide to Uluru (formerly Ayer’s Rock), the iconic red rock that rises 1,100 feet from the desert floor in the center of Australia, a sacred site for the local Pitjantjatjara people, about 200 miles west of Alice Springs, the largest town in the center of the Australian continent (from Barker Souvenirs, 1997); and a road map for Australia’s Northern Territory, an area of over 500,000 square miles and less than 250,000 people in north-central Australia. The map also features state and national parks and Aboriginal lands, as well as more detailed maps for the territory’s two urban centers—Darwin in the north (population: 150,000) and Alice Springs in the south (population: 27,000) (from Hertz/Hema Maps, 1995).
