South of the Rio Grande (1932) Directed by Lambert Hillyer. Cast: Buck Jones, Mona Maris, Philo McCullough, Doris Hill, George J. Lewis, Paul Fix, Charles Requa, James Durkin, Harry Semels, Charles Stevens, Charles Brinley, Joe Dominguez, Al Haskell, Edward LeSaint and Merrill McCormick.
The story takes place in Mexico. President Diaz created a force of Mounted Police called "Rurales"...even the Royal Mounted of Canada and the Texas Rangers had no finer records than the Rurales of Old Mexico. Buck Jones plays Sergeant Carlos Olivarez, a Mexican rural who is facing some land grabbing and underhanded skullduggery. Consuela Delgado (Mona Maris) is up to no good with her bad attentions. Juan Olivarez (Paul Fix) is Buck's brother but has killed one of the unscrupulous villains all set to take over the oil rights...now Consuela is after Corporal Ramon Ruiz (George J Lewis) who is trying to get his life together. Dolores Ruiz (Doris Hill) is the heroine and love interest for Jones, but is he able to keep her brother Ramon on the straight and narrow? Can Buck stop all of this pretense and bring in the real killers in the last reel?
